Colorado is a beautiful state and has four distinct seasons with very little humidity, and winters are not particularly harsh. Snow may fall one day and be gone the next, leaving the state glistening under a shimmering blue sky. Summers are often hot and dry. Spring is often wet and cool, and falls are generally simply stunning.
Battlement Mesa
Located on 3,200 acres on the western edge of Colorado, this golf retirement community sits on a high plateau surrounded by stunted mountains (battlements) and is about half way between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. The preferred minimum age is 55, and children are allowed as residents. About half of the residents are from in state and about half from outside of Colorado. Village at Skyline
Colorado Springs is a beautiful but ultra-conservative city (a military base, the Air Force Academy, old money and some right-wing organizations call it home), but if you enjoy that kind of atmosphere, then you might want to consider the Village at Skyline. Keep in mind that homes and apartments here are for rent, not for sale. Children are not allowed, except as visitors. The majority of residents are from Colorado, with the rest coming primarily from California, Arizona and Florida. The minimum age is 55 and the average age is 75. Free nights are offered as a way to come visit the community to see if it is for you.
