South Carolina

Retirees have been coming to South Carolina for years.  Northerners enjoy the mild climate, and those seeking a golf retirement will be in golf heaven here.

Just one town, Myrtle Beach, has more golf courses per square mile than any other city on earth (according to the city’s Chamber of Commerce).  There are several key retirement locations in the state, including gracious Charleston, the Grand Strand along the coast and luxurious Hilton Head Island.   For retirees seeking outdoor recreation beside golf, the Blue Ridge Mountains offer rafting, hiking, biking and many other activities.

The English established a settlement in South Carolina in 1670, and the state was eighth in joining the Union.
