Lusby, Maryland Retirement
Situated in southern Maryland, west of the Chesapeake Bay, Lusby, population 2,000 people, is primarily a residential community located not far from the resort town of Solomons Island. It has a number of gated, waterfront communities, and the cost of living is 15% above the national average. Water is everywhere, from the Bay to other bodies of water that include the Patuxent River, Fresh Creek and Lake Lariat. It is a pretty place, with cliffs, rolling hills and woods. Of the population, 32% is age 45 or better.
Points of interest include the Cove Point Lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Calvert Cliffs State Park.
The town is small, but new business in the form of shopping retailers are being built. Many residents commute to nearby Washington, D.C., Andrews Air Force Base or Patuxent River Naval Base.
There is no local hospital, but two medical facilities, Calvert Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital, are within 15 miles. Calvert has 110 beds and is accredited by the Joint Commission. St. Mary’s has 108 beds and is also accredited by the Joint Commission.
Racial diverse, politics in Lusby lean a bit to the right, and 23% of residents have a bachelor’s degree or better.
Crime is below the national average. All in all, a safe, quiet place to retire
