Pinehurst, North Carolina

Pinehurst, North Carolina is located in the center of the southern part of the state. It is a small town with only a little more than 9,000 residents, but Pinehurst has a big presence. It was originally founded by James Walker Tufts, a soda fountain magnate from Boston. He bought the land in 1895 and began building the first hotel and golf course on the property.

The town is home to the prestigious Pinehurst Resort, which was the location for the U.S. Open Golf Championships in 1999 and 2005.  The resort has eight golf courses and also hosts championship croquet. If golf isn’t your thing, there are other places to check out in Pinehurst. Nature lovers will want to experience the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, and there are community festivals and unique village shops that are also points of interest.

The area where Pinehurst is located experiences a mild, dry climate.
