Texas Retirement Communities

Frisco Lake by Del Webb

Frisco Lake is a Del Webb retirement community and is situated in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.  The development sits on 1,000 acres and will eventually have 3,000 single family homes nestled along Lake Lewisville, a popular recreation spot.  Many residences will have lake views or golf course views.

Frisco is an upscale suburb so the fact that Frisco Lake’s home prices begin at around $160,000 is an drawing card for many retirees seeking affordable housing in a community with outstanding amenities, including a large clubhouse with a fitness center, an indoor and outdoor pool, a ballroom, a library and more.

Homes have 2 to 3 bedrooms, 2 to 2.5 baths and attached 2-car garages; home sizes range from 1,445 sq. ft. to 2,850 sq. ft. with brick exteriors and asphalt roofs.

There is an 18-hole golf course, more than 600 acres of open space and bicycling paths meandering throughout the community.

The Mansions in the Forest

Those seeking condominiums for lease rather than for sale may want to check out The Mansions in the Forest, an age-restricted community north of Houston in the Piney Woods Region of east Texas.

There are seven floor plans from which to choose, including studios and one bedrooms and two bedrooms, with square footage ranging from 440 to 1,530; leases are for 7, 13 or 26 months.  All units are on one story, have kitchens and some have patios.  The inside hallways are bright, and a private elevator accesses all units.  There are 9-ft ceilings, full-sized washer and dryers in the residences  and 24-hr. monitored security.

Residents also enjoy a clubhouse with a beauty salon, basketball court, ballroom, fitness room and a sauna.  Complimentary meals are provided two times a month, and meals in the clubhouse are between $5 and $9 each.

The Mansions is located in Conroe, a forested area with rolling hills.  A large, wooded state forest sits next to the community, providing a great spot for hiking, camping and bicycling.
